Owl Babies

It has been a cold but fun week in Nursery. We have been keeping busy in the classroom and in our outdoor learning area.

In Literacy and topic we have been continuing with Owl Babies. We created and sang a song about the Owl Babies story. Can your child sing it to you? Check out the video on Twitter.

In Maths, we looked at what happened to groups when we add or take away from them. Do they get bigger or smaller?

In Phonics, we have been learning about syllables. We have been clapping the beats in our name and in different names of objects. We used a drum to represent the beats in objects picked out of the bag. E.G. wash-ing – up li-quid.

During choosing time, we have used paints on tin foil to create pictures of the night sky, created family portraits, made nests for the Baby Owls to live in using playdough, straw and feathers and gave numbered owls the correct amount of feathers.

Next week we will begin a new topic. We will begin reading The Snowman and getting ready for Christmas! We will be looking and matching numerals to quantities and continuing with syllables in Phonics.

BLP Learning Heroes

This week our BLP heroes are Bella (am) for building joining in with carpet sessions and sharing ideas, and Hajer (pm), for trying hard in Phonics and during carpet sessions. We can’t wait to here what exciting things you have been up to with Ollie Owl.  We have had 2 children complete the Super learning hero challenges. These were Ellis and Jax (am). Well done! We are very proud of  you.

At home with you Little Owl you can:

*Can you take part in an EXTREME read? Read a book in a strange place, take a picture of you reading the book and send it to us on Twitter or put it in your books. See picture below for an example

*Can you practise counting with 1:1 correspondence? Maybe you could count your toys.

*Can your Owls practise zipping up coats on their own? They may need help to hold the zip down while they put it in.

Please make notes or add photos into the children’s home learning book as well as anything to share for weekend news and return to school on Monday.
